How to teach your dog "Sit"
The starting point for every trick — the first position to learn.
Learn it in the game
Difficulty ★ · In the game it takes about 2 sessions (1–2 minutes each).
Teach your real dog
- Hold a treat at the nose
- Slowly move it up and back over the head
- Click + treat the moment the bottom touches down
- After 5 successes, add the cue word "Sit"
Common mistake
Holding the treat too high makes the dog jump.
Caution
Keep sessions under 5 minutes. Stop if your dog is tired or uninterested and try again later. Even shorter for puppies and seniors.
