How to teach your dog "Stay"
The most important everyday skill for keeping your dog safe.
Learn it in the game
Difficulty ★★ · In the game it takes about 2 sessions (1–2 minutes each).
Teach your real dog
- Ask for a sit, then hold up your palm
- Wait one second and reward
- Add one second at a time
- Step back once, come back, then reward
Common mistake
Calling the dog from far away teaches "Come", not "Stay" — you return to end it.
Caution
Keep sessions under 5 minutes. Stop if your dog is tired or uninterested and try again later. Even shorter for puppies and seniors.
